TL:DR If you appreciate what the Ryujinx team has done for Mac gaming / emulation on the Mac, and want to see similar developments in the future, consider donating to the project or subbing to their Patreon.Īdendum: Since I guess this needs to be said. The better Ryujinx does the more likely it is we see other big names continue to not only come to the Mac but get the attention they need to be great rather than just “good enough.” It’s also important to show other developers there’s a market out there for quality Apple Silicon ports of their emulators and games. Not only does the Mac version still need some love to get compatability more in line with the Windows and Linux versions, but given its reliance on not only MoltenVK but also a lot of bespoke workarounds for features Metal is lacking or does differently, it will need continued development.
I would highly encourage anyone who can afford to do so to make a donation to the project or consider a sub to their Patreon. Honestly this is probably one of the most important developments in emulation (and gaming in general) on the Mac in the better part of a decade and the team deserves a ton of credit for all the work they did to make it happen.
Especially when taking into account the Switch game modding community (60FPS patches, bringing in textures from PC versions, emulator resolution scaling) we now have much better options for running high quality ports of many, many AAA titles. To say it’s a pretty incredible 1.0 release that massively expands our options for gaming on the Mac is a bit of an understatement. I see a lot of people on here are enjoying the new Mac / Apple Silicon port of Ryujinx.
